Cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from a book, anime, or a game. The term originated in Japan is a portmanteau of the English words costume and play. Even though it was originally only a part of anime and game culture in Japan, today it is practiced all around the world.
In Akihabara, there is a store called Studio Crown where you can try out different cosplays and even get a makeup transformation. It is only 5 minutes from JR Akihabara Electric Town exit.
Before you visit the store, you need to choose a course and reserve a time slot on their homepage.
Courses
All courses include a photoshoot, picture data and one polaroid.
A course – \4000
It is the most affordable, 30-minute photoshoot with a wide selection of costumes, including ninja, maid, shrine maiden and yukata. Unfortunately, you can‘t choose from anime costumes.
B course – 10,000 yen
A 60-minute photoshoot a bit more expensive, but has a bigger selection of cosplays including anime and game character costumes.
C course – 15,000 yen
However, the recommended course is C course which is 90-minute long and gives you enough time to have fun. It includes costume and wig rental, character make-up and a photoshoot. The makeup is done by a professional to make the customers resemble their beloved character as closely as possible.
D course – 8,000 yen
An hour-long course that includes a short walk and a photoshoot. You can`t choose from anime and game costumes.
Nearby, there is a cosplay shop ACOS Akihabara. Here you can buy costumes, wigs, make-up, and accessories that you can use for the photoshoot at Studio Crown.
